The Gamma Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. partnered with the Selma Links’ Chapter for a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) program at New Vernon Cumberland Presbyterian Church (CP) on Dec. 3.

The program was part of the Links’ Black K.A.R.E. (Kidney Awareness Resources and Education), a focus on engaging the faith community to increase awareness of CKD and its associated risks of diabetes and hypertension. 

The Dallas County Zetas partnered with the Links. Black K.A.R.E. Ambassadors Dr. Denisha Hendricks, Dr. Constance Hendricks and Shelly McGee are both Links and Zeta Phi Beta members. They are also K.A.R.E. Ambassadors.

New Vernon CP members participated in pre-tests and posttests, visited the Black K.A.R.E. website and took a quiz for kidney disease risk factors.

“Kidney Sundays was a great opportunity to raise awareness within the faith community about the risks factors for kidney disease and the importance of getting tested,” said Dr. Patricia Robinson, Links member and chairperson.

Dr. Constance Hendricks, President of the Dallas County Zetas and Links member, said the two organizations have a solid relationship. 

“The organizations working together demonstrate how when we collaborate, our community is the beneficiary of our collaborative program resources,” Hendricks said.
