The spring matchup between Ellwood Christian Academy and Meadowview Christian School was the first in what both schools hope becomes a good rivalry.

In the first edition of this renewed matchup, the Trojans of Meadowview looked the better side with a 35-14 victory.

“The honeymoon is over for us,” Trojans coach John Glasscock said. “We have had a year to really put our system into place and it’s showing.”

Meadowview moved the ball well on the ground on offense behind an improved offensive line.

Immediately after stopping the Eagles on a fourth down play, Trojan quarterback Dylan Lawrence broke off a 19-yard run. Meadowview scored on the next play on a 17-yard Brandon Smith run.

After moving the ball down the field on the Trojan’s next possession, Lawrence and Smith struggled on a pitch. The resulting fumble was picked up by Ellwood’s Bennett Harris and returned 50 yards for a touchdown making the score 7-6.

Lawrence made up for his mistake on the next play, sprinting 65-yards to the end zone.

After another Ellwood failed fourth down conversion, Joey Rayburn scored for Meadowview on a 10-yard run to move the score out to 21-6 at the half.

“We had such a great offseason workout program and the kids bought in,” Glasscock said. “You can see that tonight with us moving faster and being a little bit stronger.”

In the second half, MCS allowed some younger players to play and Ellwood capitalized with a 45-yard touchdown from Derrion Glenn to pull the Eagles to 21-12.

Lawrence would come back in and seal the game for Meadowview on an 8-yard run to push the score out to 29-14. Seth Taylor rounded out the scoring on the Trojans next possession with a 3-yard run.

“I’m not sure what team that was out there tonight,” Ellwood head coach Mike Stokes said. “This was one of the sorriest spring games I have seen since I’ve been coaching. We made some mental mistakes and I will take credit for that, but you can’t make the same ones over and over. We will make it better before the fall though, I guarantee that.”
