Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. delivered an update on the city’s Boil Water notice during a press conference Wednesday

At the Wednesday afternoon press conference held at the Carl C. Morgan  Convention Center, Perkins said residents who live north of Highland Avenue and Highway 219 are impacted by the alert.

“We have challenging times ahead, but we have been resilient,” Perkins said.

According to Robert Bridges, Selma’s Waterworks and Sewer Board experienced low water pressure and water outages. Bridges said that the Selma Waterworks lost 3 million gallons of water.

Bottles of water can be picked up at the Morgan Convention Center for those families affected by the low water.

Perkins said samples were collected and will be analyzed to ensure the water is safe before authorities will lift the boil advisory. He anticipates getting results within 24-48 hours.

Dallas County EMA Director Toya Crusoe thanked FEMA and the Selma Area Food Bank for providing bottles of water.
