This year’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee marks the 59th anniversary of the historic Selma to Montgomery March. The reenactment pays homage to the transformative civil rights journey of 1965. Led by iconic freedom fighting figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lewis, the 1965 march helped solidify African Americans’ constitutional right to vote and the signing of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Selma Jubilee’s website, fittingly articulates this year’s events as: “Commemorating the Struggle, Celebrating the Victory.” The 59th anniversary commemorative events are listed as follows:
March 1
Education Summit from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS)
Kingian Nonviolence Training Day 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Selma Center for Nonviolence, Truth and Reconciliation
Invisible Giants from 12 – 2 p.m. at Selma High School
Mock Trial from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Dallas County Courthouse
Public Conversation from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS)
March 2
Selma Bridge Crossing Festival at 7 a.m. on the Edmund Pettus Bridge
Jubilee Parade at 9 a.m.
Battle of the Bands from 10:45 – 11:15 pm. at the School of Discovery
Jubilee Street Festival from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Water Avenue
Intergenerational Hip Hop Political Summit from 1:30 – 4 p.m. on Water Avenue
Miss Jubilee Pageant from 5 – 7 p.m. at Selma High School
Mass Meeting from 7 – 9 p.m. this is an online event (TBA)
March 3
Martin & Coretta King Unity Breakfast from 7 – 9 a.m. at Wallace Community College Selma. Tickets are $75.
Sunday Morning Services from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Clinton Capel, Brown Chapel Church and First Baptist Church
Pre-March Rally from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. at Brown Chapel AME Church
Tribute to the Footsoldiers Concert from 4 p.m. at the Foot of the Pettus Bridge on Water Avenue
