The Delta Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated celebrated its 75th anniversary on Jan. 4.

The fraternity was officially chartered on Jan. 4, 1949. and was honored for the anniversary  at the Selma City Council meeting on Jan. 9.

“Thank you to all those Brothers that have served as members of our Brotherhood past and present, here’s to 75 more years of Brotherhood and Excellence in the Black Belt,”  Alpha member and Selma City Council President Billy Young said

Kenyotta Rucker said the chapter, known as the Black Belt Alphas, have always had community service as a priority throughout its history.

“The 75th anniversary of the Black Belt Alphas marks a resilient legacy of leadership, service, and community impact, reflecting a steadfast commitment to fostering positive change and unity within our community,” Rucker said.

Alpha member Mark Neely, who

is  running for Dallas County Commissioner, said the Black Belt Alphas have always made an impact in Selma and Dallas County through various organizations.

“The Black Belt Alphas have partnered with the March of Dimes for over 25 years in Selma and the Black Belt,” Neely said. “We are so thankful for the programs and services provided to babies and the women of our beloved Community.”

Selma Municipal Court Judge said the Dallas County has always been about consistency in the area.

“Seventy-five years of consistent service  to our community, McGuire said. “We are humble and grateful to have reached such a remarkable milestone in not just our fraternity’s history but in the history of the BlackBelt. To our beloved community, we thank you for your unwavering love and support. We are looking forward to more years of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.”
