Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
|
The fourth week of January 2024 will go down in history as one of my worst weeks ever. Most of the things I tried to accomplish did not seem to work between Monday and Friday. I felt as if I was stuck in quicksand and could not get out.
If I had been playing either basketball or baseball, what I went through last week would be called a slump by the sports media. Whenever basketball players go through shooting slumps, their deficiencies are described as being streak shooters.
I remember Baltimore Orioles star and former Morgan Academy shortstop Gunnar Henderson discussing his hitting slump in 2023 and how he successfully overcame it.
A hitting slump is a common thing for baseball players during a grueling 162-game schedule in the regular season. A player can go 26-for-40 and then be 10-for-50 the next month. It happens to the best of them.
Last week was my “hitting slump.” The weeklong rainstorm we received in Dallas County did not do my sinuses any favors. We went from a hard freeze of 14 degrees in the morning to 60 degrees four days later.
Whenever this happens, I get sinus attacks and last week was no exception.
Over the weekend, I shut down everything I could to get the funk out of my system. As my late and beloved grandmother used to say, “Cast out the demons and tell the devil to go home.” So, that’s what I did.
Sunday night ended well as my beloved San Francisco 49ers beat Detroit to reach the Super Bowl.
I am thankful to my co-workers and colleagues for helping me survive last week and ending it on a good note. With no rain in sight for the next few days, this week is already looking up.
