Selma, Southside swept in area basketball championship games

The Selma High girls lost the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) area girls’ basketball championships on Wednesday, falling to Brewbaker Tech 53-31 for the Area 5, Class 5A championship in Montgomery.
The Lady Panthers lost to Sumter Central 33-28 in the Area 7, Class 3A finals at Southside High School.
The Ellwood Christian Academy girls lost to Calhoun in the Area 5, Class 1A tournament semifinals on Feb. 6 at Autaugaville.
On the boys side, Southside lost to Sumter Central 84-32 for the Area 7, 3A championship.
Selma fell to Demopolis 62-53 for the Area 5, 5A title on Thursday.
The Eagles lost to Calhoun in the Area 5,1A semifinals on Feb. 6.
