Keith High girls punch ticket to Class 1A State Basketball tournament

The Keith High girls basketball team clinched a berth in the Class 1A State Tournament with a 51-28 victory over Calhoun in the Central Regional Finals on Monday at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.
Ja’kayla Moore led the Lady Bears with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals and was named Central Regional MVP. Aniyah Richardson, Janiyah King, and Jocelyn Atkins scored eight points each.
“For a group of ladies that never won an Area game or a playoff game and now we will be playing on the biggest stage in high school basketball says a lot about who they are,” Lady Bears coach Cecil Williams said.
Keith faces Marion County in a 1A semifinal contest on Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center.
Marbury girls 55, Selma girls 43
The seventh-ranked Lady Saints (23-3) were upset in the Central Region semifinals on Feb. 16 at Bill Harris Arena. Kaniyah Woods led Selma with 13 points, while Jykierra Oliver added 10.
Gabrielle Brown scored 21 points and six assists for Marbury, who led 28-20 at halftime and 36-31 after three quarters.
Trinity Presbyterian 45, Southside 37
The Panthers fell in the Class 3A Central Regional semifinals on Feb. 16 at Bill Harris Arena. Ahkilles Davis led the Panthers with 11 points, while M.J. Reese added 10 points.
Southside finished the season 9-13.
