The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control approved the winter sports alignments for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years on March 14.
Classification alignments are officially set for the sports of boys and girls basketball.
Keith High remains in Area 6, Class 1A with University Charter, Linden, R.C. Hatch and A.L. Johnson.
Southside is in Area 4, Class 3A with Thomasville and Wilcox Central.
Selma is in Area 5, Class 5A with Brewbaker Tech and Demopolis.
Dallas County is in Area 5, Class 3A with Alabama Christian Academy, Saint James, Montgomery Academy and Thorsby.
Keith basketball coach Marcus Turner said nothing changed with the Bears in their area.
Dallas County basketball coach Cliff Nix said it will be a competitive region.
“This is the first time in a long time we have been part of a 5 team area,” Nix said. “There will be some great competition amongst the area with teams that we usually don’t schedule to play. We met up with St. James in regionals a few years ago, but other than that, we haven’t played any of these new area teams in the past.”
To work with the AHSAA constitution and bylaws, the AHSAA Central Board of Control manages championship play and classification. Member schools are reclassified every two years. The high schools are divided into seven classifications (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A and 7A) for competition in championship programs.
“More than 190,000 student-athletes are expected to participate in AHSAA sports activities during the upcoming 2024-25 and 2025-26 classification period,”AHSAA executive director Alvin Briggs said. “I want to thank the Central Board and AHSAA staff. As always, it was a complex task. Everyone worked together to find the best solution as we move forward.”
