Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center hosted its annual Pinwheel Garden plantings on Monday.
CARCAC Executive Director Lauri Cothran said recognizing and remembering children who were abused each year is very important.
“We need to remember the victims every day,” Cothran said. ”The victims carry around their abuse every day. If you bring your child to CARCAC, we’ll show them love and treat them with respect.”
Each year, the event honors child abuse victims to raise awareness in its service region including Bibb, Dallas, Hale, Perry and Wilcox counties. Each pinwheel represents a child involved in an abuse investigation during the year. April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. Two hundred and thirty-nine pinwheels were planted.
“Dallas County will be part of a national movement dedicated to prioritizing the well-being of children and preventing child abuse and neglect,” Cothran said. The pinwheels symbolize the bright future all children deserve.’’
International Paper, Dallas County Commission, Bush Hog, Horizon Investment Group, Selma Funeral Home and Long Lewis Foundation are all Pinwheel Sponsors. Each group had at least one representative at the ceremony.
