Coach Cecil Williams may be on the verge of building another state championship team at Keith High School.
Williams is The Selma Times-Journal girls’ basketball player of the year after guiding the Lady Bears(19-10) to the Class 1A state semifinals.
“I’m just glad to be in the position to be able to help kids develop skills and have the opportunity to gain a free education from sports,” Williams said.
Williams, who guided the Lady Bears to a 1A state title in 2015, said he’s miles away from building a coaching legacy.
“As far as a legacy, I got a long way to go, and hopefully with the upcoming athletes, that could be possible,” Williams said.
The Lady Bears have a chance to make another title next year with the return if four starters: JaKayla Moore, Shania Moore, Adasia Atkins, and Janiyah King.
“I’m just appreciative that I’ve had this opportunity to touch the lives of children who may not have had the to experience what we have done here at Keith,” Williams said.
With a strong nucleus returning for 2025, expect the Lady Bears to compete for another state crown under Williams.
