Guard Tommy Tisdale set a unique standard for boys basketball at Keith High School. 

Tisdale is named The Selma Times-Journal boys basketball player of the year for the second straight season. Tisdale averaged 27 points, eight rebounds and seven assists a game.

“Being Selma Times-Journal’s player of the year back-to-back is a nice accomplishment and it means a lot,” Tisdale said. “We have a lot of talented basketball players in Dallas County.”

 What Tisdale leaves behind at Keith is an impressive legacy that many players in the region or state will never accomplish.  Tisdale was named All-State by the Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) for four straight seasons. He went from honorable mention as a freshman and rose each year, finishing with a first-team selection in Class 1A this season.

The 6-foot-3 Tisdale played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Basketball game, showing that he was one of the 12 best players in the state. Tisdale said he was always proud to represent the blue and gold, whether in the Bears’ den in Orrville or on the road. He was on the varsity squad as an eighth-grader.

“I’ll take a lot of memories with me playing at Keith,” Tisdale said. “I had a of great moments at Keith.”

Keith head coach Marcus Turner said it was enjoyable to coach Tisdale and especially saw growth as each year passed. Turner also said that Tisdale improved his game each year.

“His work ethic, confidence is built off work ethic and he’s very confident in what he does because of the work that he has put in,” Turner said. “I’m extremely happy for that kid.”

The next stop for Tisdale is playing at Brewton Parker College, an NAIA school based out of Mount Vernon, Georgia. With the upbringing of his parents, Tommy Sr. and LaTonia Tisdale, Tisdale will be successful on and off the court at the college level.
