The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3016 will hold its Selma Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. outside Memorial Stadium, next to the Eternal Flame.
Sgt. Maj. Monica Walker, the Alabama Joint Forces Headquarters policy and plans senior enlisted advisor, will be the guest speaker. Walker is a highly decorated leader with multiple combat tours and a distinguished military career.
“Sgt. Maj. Walker is uniquely qualified to honor and commemorate the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes,” VFW commander Dennis Daugherty said. “This event underscores Selma’s commitment to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the bravery and dedication of the men and women in the U.S. military,”
Following the ceremony, Daugherty will host a community reception at the VFW Post, located at 299 Kings Bend Road.
“This will be an opportunity for the community to come together, share stories, and show support for our veterans and their families,” Daugherty said.
