The heat didn’t keep down the fun at the Jazz on the Grazz festival in downtown Selma Saturday night.
The event began at 1 p.m. at Phoenix Park St. James Hotel and went well into the night.
Dallas County Circuit Court Clerk Lynnethia Bennett and two saxophone players highlighted the 13th annual festival.
The event was created by former Selma City Councilwoman Angela Benjamin and was presented by the Coalition of Concerned Families (CCF).
Bennett was followed by Tommy “SaxLegend” Friend and Deitrick Lawson and Sax Appeal. Bennett, performing as Ms. Necie, said she is always grateful to perform at Jazz on the Grazz.
“I’m so grateful anytime Angela Benjamin, president of The Coalition of Concerned Families, calls on me,” Bennett said. “Anytime I can use my voice to entertain, bring joy to someone’s day, bring peace to a family or even bring a crowd together to sing along with me, it’s always humbling. I’m grateful for my God-given talent as I always put him first in anything that I do.”
State Rep. Prince Chestnut, D-Selma, and State Sen. Robert Stewart, D-Selma, were among the event’s sponsors.
