Selma woman hit, injured by vehicle on Broad Street

An African-American Selma female was hit by a vehicle on Broad Street during the Fourth of July weekend.
According to Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford, Cassidy Smith was struck in a vehicle driven by Shaniya Blanks at the 2100 block of Broad Street on Sunday, July 7. Blanks was charged with first-degree assault and released after posting $60,000 bond. Blanks drove a white Nissan Maxima during the incident.
Smith suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Smith remains at UAB Hospital and is currently in critical condition. When Smith was admitted, she was in the UAB intensive care unit and underwent brain surgery. Her condition has improved.
The Selma Police Department asks if anyone has any information to help with the investigation, and can call the SPD at (334) 876-1273.
No further details are being released as the case remains under investigation by the SPD.
