Yakira Mitchell, a resident of Valley Grande, was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in the arms of her steadfast and supportive mother at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 2 p.m. the Rev. James Perkins Jr. officiating. The burial will be at Pineview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2024, from 3 to 7 pm. at Selma Funeral Home.
Yakira leaves a lifetime of memories to be cherished by her father Walter Wright of Miami, Florida; her relentlessly devoted mother, LaSonya Mitchell of Valley Grande; three sisters, Marcia Briggins of Nashville, Tennessee, Marchae Wright of Cottondale and Skylar Mitchell of Valley Grande; two brothers, Courtney Fikes of Birmingham and Walter Wright Jr. of Miami, Florida;a faithful, selfless, protective and all-time anchored grandfather, James Mitchell, Jr. of Valley Grande two uncles, Cassius (Eliza) Callens and Michael Greene, both of Selma; two aunts, Shelia (Kosefeski) Brooks of Valley Grande and Shawanda Surles of Montgomery; a host of great aunts and uncles; four maternal mentors, Mrs. Elnora Robinson, Mrs. Linda Sanders, Antonia Leshore and Stephanie Smith Black; and a loyal, and very supportive dad, Jessie Dickerson.
She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Mrs. Lula Bender Mitchell; great-grandparents, Mr. James Matthew Bender and Mrs. Polly Pierce Bender and Mr. James and Lille Moore Mitchell Sr.; and uncles, James (Chuck) Bender and Jessie Bender.
