The Distinguished Young Women of Dallas County will award its winner for the Class of 2025 at Selma High School Auditorium on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Twelve girls from the area will compete for the DYW title, including Lydia Smitherman, Makayla Muse, Brooke Egbert, Kenlynn Lawrence, Sydney Pritchett, Alyssa McCloud, Mackenzie King, Layken Smitherman, Maddie Smith, Molly Bohannon, Jai Calhoun and Catherine Perry.
The contestants will compete for over $11,000 in college scholarships under the theme “Go for Gold.”
Participants will be evaluated in five areas of competition: scholastic achievement (25% of their overall score), interview (25%), talent (20%), fitness (15%), and self-expression (15%).
The program also highlights the integral role of the “Little Sisters,” an inspiring experience offered to junior girls in Dallas County. They participate in activities with the contestants, create posters and goodie bags, and provide continuous support and encouragement, contributing significantly to the DYW program’s community spirit.
“These young ladies have been diligently preparing, perfecting their dance routines, honing their talents, and practicing their interview skills while also forming lasting friendships,” DYW Chairman Demisha Stough said.
Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased from any contestant or Little Sister and at the door on the day of the program.
