The Selma Housing Authority held a baseball camp on July 25 at Bloch Park.
Adrian Holloway, a former Selma University baseball player and coach, taught students the fundamentals of the sport. He is currently coach at Xavier University in New Orleans.
The SHA partnered with the City of Selma’s Recreation Department. SHA executive director Kennard Randolph thanked Gerald Barron, volunteer coaches and Holloway for the one day’s success.
“From early morning drills to mid-afternoon games, the campers immersed themselves in the game they love,” Randolph said. “The coaches pushed campers to be their best, teaching them new techniques and strategies to improve their skills. Baseball camp has not only made our campers better players but better teammates and individuals.”
Holloway enjoyed being back in Selma and discussed the city’s MLB history, including former Minnesota Twins pitcher Terry Leach and Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson.
