The Selma Police Department has arrested a man in connection with the death of a man who was allegedly assaulted Monday.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford identified the suspect as Walter Brewer, 53, who was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder. He is currently in the Perry County Jail on a $1.2 million bond.
The case stems from an assault call on Monday in the 1300 block of Lauderdale Street. Officers found the male victim lying on the ground unconscious. ASAP ambulance personnel treated the victim and transported him to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
“Please keep the victim’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” Fulford said in a press release Thursday.
Fulford did not release the name of the victim in the statement.
The case remains under investigation by the Selma Police Department.
