Several Dallas County schools returned to the classroom Friday after issues with the water system in the area have been resolved.

Dallas County Water and Sewer issued a release late Thursday night that a water pump issue was causing low water pressure and outages in the area.

“Repairs to the pump on our water tank have been completed,” the notice said Thursday night. “Water levels should rise to be fully restored over the next couple hours. The boil water notice remains in effect until further notice. Thank you for your patience during this time. Have a great evening.”

Bruce K. Craig, Southside Primary, Tipton Middle School and the Alternative Learning Center are all returning to class on Friday after water service has been restored to the schools.

Dallas County Superintendent Anthony Sampson said they were forced to release school early Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday as Dallas County Water & Sewer Authority worked to correct the problem in the area.

Sampson said the water issue happened Tuesday afternoon at the schools, and they decided to release students early for that day.

“We were able to get through lunch before the water problem occurred,” Sampson said. “When we lost water at the schools, we were forced to close school early. We had not received notification that the issue had been resolved in time for school Wednesday, so we decided to close.”

The schools tried to open again Thursday, but they released early in the day because of the unreliable water pressure. Sampson said the schools finally got back to normal on Friday, but they were abiding by the boil water notice.
