The Dallas County School Board has appointed Cheryl Cobbs, Central Office Local Education Agencies Bookkeeper, as the interim chief school financial officer during a special called board meeting Thursday.
Cobbs, who was nominated by board president Leroy Miles, was asked by the board if she would serve in this capacity. She answered yes.
Miles said Cobbs would serve in that capacity until they could find a permanent replacement for the CSFO. Last week, the board contracted with Alabama Association of School Boards to perform a search to fill the position. The board also filled out a questionnaire to help AASB know what kind of person they were looking for.
He believes Cobb will have to serve for about 45 days. Legally, board attorney Malika Fortier said an interim CSFO could serve up to six months without having to be fully certified.
“We decided that 30 days was going to push it. So we’re going to try 45 days to get somebody named in place, interviewed and in place in 45 days because we can’t operate without or until we get a replacement,” Miles said. “It might be less than 45 days. It might be more than 45 days.”
Superintendent Anthony Sampson asked the board to clarify what salary they will pay Cobb for the interim position. The board agreed to pay Cobb a daily rate based on what the CSFO salary is annually.
