The Selma Police Department is investigating a shooting on North Race Street that has wounded at least four people.
Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford said that the four people did not receive life-threatening injuries. He said the incident occurred at 201 North Race Street on Saturday night at the Ultra Grand Lounge in which an undisclosed number of rounds were shot.
“We do not know of the motive at this time,” Fulford said. “We do not have any suspects in custody.”
Mary Scott, owner of the Ultra Grand Lounge, reached out to The Selma Times-Journal and disputed the location of the incident. She said that there was no gunfire at her business.
“The incident occurred down the street from us,” Scott said “It was not at the lounge. No one at the lounge was hurt or injured. All we did was call the incident and report it to the police.”
Scott said they heard the gunfire from down the street, and they called the police.
Scott said they have security guards at her business, and they screen the guests to make sure no one underage is at her business. The outside of her business clearly states that no one is allowed to have guns on the property.
“We have security at our place to make sure that everyone is safe here. All we want is for people to have a good time when they are here and not have to worry about their safety,” Scott said. “It hurts business when they say that something like this happened here when it didn’t.”
Scott said she wants the police to do something about these kinds of incidents.
“Something needs to happen to stop this in the city,” Scott said.
Selma Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call them at 334-876-1260.
