The top-ranked Rebels of Chambers Academy proved to be too much for Morgan Academy on Friday night in Lafayette.

The Rebels celebrated the carnival atmosphere of homecoming with a 52-12 victory over the overmatched Senators.

Morgan Academy was staggered by the fast start of Chambers. The Rebels scored two touchdowns in the first 43 seconds of the game, one after a long opening kickoff return and one after a Senators fumble. Luke Tarver scored five touchdowns to start the game as Chambers Academy ran out to a 34-0 lead.

Tarver had 150 yards rushing on the night on just nine carries. The Rebels rolled up 604 yards of total offense against Morgan.

The Senators scored two touchdowns in the loss. Quarterback Baron Frazer connected with Jack Johnson on a 28-yard touchdown pass and in the second half, Patrick Johnson hit Speedie Pernell on a 54-yard scoring strike. But the Senators were never in this one.

Johnson led Morgan Academy with 110 yards rushing on 11 carries and Pernell had two receptions for 105 yards.

The loss drops Morgan Academy’s record to 1-3 on the season. After two straight road games, the Senators return to Selma. Next Friday night is homecoming at Morgan Academy. The Senators will have extracurricular activities all week leading up to their game against the Colts of Hooper Academy, marking the first time all season that Morgan has played a team that was either not highly ranked or undefeated.
