Two businesses in Selma are currently kicking off their annual Holiday Toy Drive from now until Dec.15th, to give to children who are in need of gifts during the holiday season.
Members of The Country Convo Podcast and The Cotton House are pairing together as one to bring kids within community gifts for Christmas.
Country Convo Podcast Member Keysa Williams said the podcast members thought of the toy drive idea this year, as a way to kick off their one-year anniversary in production and give back to the kids within the community.
Williams said residents are encouraged to drop off as many toys to The Cotton House as they would like, which is located on 1001 Alabama Ave in Selma, and said right now, she is unsure about how many gifts have been donated so far.
“If people can’t donate toys, they surely can do a monetary gift for the kids,” Willams said. “Then, we can go out and purchase the toys ourselves.”
Williams also said if residents would like to give a monetary gift, they will be able to use Zelle, Cash App, Apple Pay, inside The Cotton House as a way to contribute their donation for the toys.
Residents can donate toys for kids who are newborn up to the age of 12 years old.
“We don’t have a limit,” Williams said. “If people want to bring 10 toys, that’s fine or one toy, that fine, we just want to be able to pass out toys to the kids in the community, who possibly won’t have the best Christmases and who may not wake up with anything, Christmas morning.
Williams said at least, with the toy drive, she knows kids within the community will have items under the tree and be happy on Christmas morning.
“As a kid, I never had an issue with not getting anything for Christmas,” Willams said. But, I knew people back then, who didn’t get as much for Christmas, and they didn’t seem as happy. But, as a contributor to this drive, I don’t want to see a kid who doesn’t have anything for Christmas, and I want to see kids of the community have as much as any other kid does.”
Residents have until Dec.15th to donate all toys to The Cotton House to help the kids in the community have a great Christmas.
