The City of Selma has officially announced that residents can see new trucks, picking up debris during their scheduled pick up times.
The knuckle boom trucks were purchased under amazing financial terms back in February that Mayor James Perkins said will not have a “burden” on the city.
“Congratulations, to the Public Works team, led by Mr. Henry Hicks, Sr. for a job well done,” said Perkins. “I want to remind the citizens that these trucks can only pick up trash piles that do not have household garbage mixed in. Usually, when we get calls about piles not being picked up, it is because someone has put garbage in a trash pile.”
Shanta Woods, who is a driver for the city said she feels it’s good to finally have decent equipment to get the job done and said “Thank you, Mayor Perkins, Mr. Hicks, and everybody who keep fighting for us. All we want is a fair wage and good equipment to do our jobs.”
Director of Public Works Henry Hicks said he thanks the citizens for their patience and said now, since the trucks will be up and running for the city, he said he’s “on to the next challenge”.
