Alabama’s All-Stars overcame eight lead changes Saturday and a heroic effort by Mississippi All-Stars quarterback Deuce Knight of George County High School to win the 38th Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic football battle 35-29 at Mobile’s Hancock-Whitney Stadium.
Southside’s Derick “Duke” Smith caught all three targets for 17 yards including a volleyball-like one-handed catch to set up Alabama’s final scoring drive.
The win was the fourth in a row for Alabama – giving them a 27-11 lead in series which dates back to 1988.
Alabama quarterback K.J. Lacey, a University of Texas signee, earned MVP honors for Alabama, coached by his own coach Jeff Kelly of Saraland. He was 21-of-36 passing for 327 yards and four touchdowns.
