The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for any children who are having to stay in the hospital over the holidays.
State troopers from ALEA stopped by Vaughan Regional Medical Center on Monday morning to deliver stuffed “Trooper Bears” to the staff of the fourth floor.
Cpl. Reginal M. King, public affairs coordinator with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said this long-standing tradition is something troopers look forward to every year.
“This is just another way that we troopers can show that there’s a human side to us,” King said. “We enjoy making those teddy bear deliveries to those children who may be away from home and not able to presents like they normally are.”
When the troopers arrived at Vaughan, there were no children admitted to the hospital at that time, but the troopers still left several bears with the staff. King is hopeful that if any child has to be admitted, the nurses will have a special present to give them.
“This is just one of the ways we say that we care about you. We’re here for you, and we want to brighten their days for any child that has to be in the hospital during the holiday season,” King said. “Typically when we make teddy bear deliveries, it’s priceless to see the smiles that are on the children’s faces. It’s something that we really take pride in. We try to be a beacon of light to those individuals that may be in the hospital. We’re just trying to give them a little something to smile about.”
