Last week, a local realty group within the city known as Cornerstone Realty, received a $1,000 donation from the Selma Chapter of the Montgomery Board of Realtors Association to help a local food bank within the area, give back to those in need.
“We are delighted,” said Kent Woodruff, a realty agent at Cornerstone Realty and a contributing member of the Selma Food Bank. “To receive a donation so big, every dollar donated, will feed about four people in each household.”
Woodruff said the Selma Food Bank is the business that the funds are getting donated to, and with the donation, they will measure their services and the pounds of food to equally give to families who qualify and are in need.
Each dollar donated will also provide families with three meals to take home, who the association say could possibly struggle with food insecurity.
“It’s just amazing how far the money will stretch for the food bank”, Woodruff said. “Just because of the way it is organized, they can do so much with the monetary donations.”
Jennifer Martin, who is the Director of Operations for the Selma Food Bank said the said the donation will feed around 1,000 people who are recipients of the bank and she said that they are very grateful of any support that they can get to helps further their mission.
So, we are very thankful that the association donated to us,” Martin said.
Woodruff said the agreement through Feeding America that involves the Selma Food Bank, allows the food to be given at a minimal cost, which allows the bank to extend the money as far as they can.
The Selma food bank covers Dallas County, Marengo County, Wilcox County and Perry County, according to Woodruff and she said the agency cares about their counties and that the donation is just a great way to let the realtors of the community give back to the food bank and in turn, give back to people in their counties and each community.
Woodruff said since October, the organization has been giving back to the Selma community through local food drives that were held in October and November for two businesses and she said that they are currently preparing for an upcoming drive that will be held this month at the Winston Williams Homeless Shelter.
