Law Enforcement, First Responders luncheon set for Friday

Crosspoint Christian Church will be hosting the annual Law Enforcement and First Responders Appreciation Day on Friday, Jan. 31.

Personnel from Dallas County Sheriff Office (DCSO), Selma Police Department (SPD), Selma Fire Department (SFD), Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division Troopers, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) along with volunteer firefighters and others are being invited to attend the luncheon and awards ceremony, which is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Then, the public is invited to come to a special community wide worship service at 1 p.m.

Northside Baptist Church member Kathy Smith, one of the event’s organizers, said the luncheon is always about appreciating first responders for protecting the lives of area residents.

“We love and respect our law enforcement officers and first responders,” Smith said. “We wouldn’t have it any other way. We are rotating churches to host the luncheon and we thank Crosspoint Christian Church for hosting this year.”

At this event, Smith said the West Central Baptist Association will honor will honor each of these persons with a meal and a small thank you gift.

Following the luncheon, there will be an awards ceremony where an outstanding person, chosen by each department head and will be recognized and given a gift basket. There will be a total of 13 gift baskets.

“This awards ceremony will be open to the public, and we hope you will consider attending and showing appreciation to these wonderful community servants who put their lives on the line every day,” Smith said in a letter to businesses and organizations.
