Dallas County continued its hot streak with a 71-30 win over a rebuilding Maplesville on Tuesday.

The Hornets dominated on both the offensive and defensive ends for the game’s duration.

“I explained to our kids this is the time year you want to be playing well,” said Dallas County coach Willie Moore. “We’re just trying to continue doing positive things on the defensive end.”

Dallas County took control early, using a 10-0 run highlighted by an Andrew Mahan dunk to press out to a 13-2 lead. DeAndre McIntyre hit a 3-pointer to end the period — extending the lead to 19-7 — and start a 24-2 Dallas County run.

When the smoke cleared, the Hornets took a 38-9 lead to intermission.

“We came out and played hard,” said Maplesville coach Eric Bailey. “They’ve got 12 guys that can play basketball. They can take five out and put in five more that are as good.”

Moore took advantage of the Hornets’ success in the second half, playing the majority of his bench.

Corey Shaw opened the second half with a 3-pointer, sparking a 17-2 run to extend the Hornets’ lead to 55-12. The Dallas County defense held the Maplesville offense to two field goals in the first seven minutes of the third quarter.

“I thought we came out and played well on the defensive side,” said Moore. “We sort of controlled the tempo of the game. And when you control the tempo of the game, you get a lot of positive things to happen.”

Frank Crews led the Hornets (19-4) with 15 points, and Henry Baker added 14.

Brian Bailey, the Red Devils’ lone senior, led Maplesville (1-10) with 19.
