No. 4 Selma earned a 60-32 road win at Dallas County with a performance that left even Dallas County coach Charles Thompson impressed.

“This is a good team and they’re well-coached,” said Thompson. “That’s why you play the game.”

The Saints controlled the contest from the opening tip, breaking open a 3-2 game with a 19-4 first quarter run capped by a Kamesha Strong steal and layup to increase the lead to 22-8.

“They played the passing lanes very well,” said Thompson. “We made a lot of turnovers. And it seems like every turnover we made, they executed off of.”

Selma closed the half with an 8-2 run to claim a 43-19 lead at intermission.

“I thought we played an excellent first half,” said Selma coach Anthony Harris. “We came here and executed well. We got some good shots, got some good looks, played good defense.”

The Saints’ offense struggled to maintain its dominance in the third period, but the defense continued to hold the Hornets at bay. Though the Saints (24-4) only scored eight points, Dallas County (14-8) only managed two.

A 9-0 fourth quarter run sparked by a Strong 3-pointer extended the lead to 52-24 and ensured the win.

Three Saints finished in double figures. Ashley Grimes led Selma with 21 points. Strong added 13 and Keisha Moore finished with 12.

Jessica Spears led Dallas County with 12 points.
