Selma and Dallas County Schools students will take student assessment tests during the spring semester.
Tests begin in early February and are administered throughout the semester until early May.
Dallas County Schools testing coordinator Vickie Poe said there would be tutorials for the students prior to testing. She said she did not know if after-school study sessions would be available for students.
These tests include the Alabama High School Graduation Exam and the Stanford Achievement Test.
Students must pass each part of the AHSGE, which includes reading, language, mathematics, science and social studies. The AHSGE will take place March 6-13 across the state.
Students begin taking the AHSGE in 10th grade, and they have six opportunities to pass each section.
The Stanford Achievement Test is designed to help teachers evaluate students’ progress toward meeting the requirements of No Child Left Behind. The multiple-choice test is available in 13 levels that correspond with each grade.
Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Austin Obasohan said along with offering one-on-one mentoring, students could also use computer software at the YMCA of Selma-Dallas County that is designed to improve test scores.
“What we’re trying to teach our students is test taking skills,” Obasohan said. “We really need to develop test taking skills.”
