One more interviewee will sit before the Selma City Council’s administrative committee before its four members make a selection.

The committee interviewed six individuals for city clerk Monday at City Hall. The final interviewee could not attend because of a recent death in the family.

Once the finalists are selected, the full city council will make its decision. That decision is likely to come as early as Dec. 30, the council’s next full meeting.

The clerk is expected to live within the city limits. If the job is offered to someone who lives outside the city limits, the council committee wants them to move within 30 days of the job offer or face termination at the end of those 30 days.

A new clerk would take the job no later than Jan. 15. If the present clerk is re-appointed, she would continue her duties without a break.

City Clerk Lois Williams has re-applied for the job. Williams has degrees from Wallace Community College Selma and from Concordia College. She is seeking a master’s now. The city council appointed her four years ago to the term in office.

“I would like to continue to serve the community,” she said during the interview.

Ashley Savage, a Wallace Community College graduate, has retail sales and receptionist experience. Her field of study is in science.

Nancy Hinson is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in communications. She grew up in Selma and had worked for The Selma Times-Journal before becoming a secretary for the late Mayor Joe Smitherman. Hinson said she’d also worked in several different positions at the Selma Police Department. Currently, she is manager of the Central Alabama Animal Shelter.

Malvina Harrison has a degree in information technology and a master’s from Auburn University in Montgomery. She has worked for the Alabama Supreme Court and as information technology director for the city before going to Concordia College in a similar capacity.

Ivy Harrision is assistant city clerk, presently. She has 20 years experience in office practices. She is certified as a city clerk and has worked in municipal government for more than four years. Although she does not live in the city currently, Harrison told the committee she would begin making arrangements to move into the city as soon as she is offered the position.
