The Central Christian girls were overmatched from the beginning in a loss to No. 1 Lee-Scott in the Pepsi Classic tournament on Friday afternoon.

The Warriors jumped out to an 18-0 lead in the game’s first five minutes and cruised to a 66-33 win.

“I thought we played really good,” said Lee-Scott coach Chad Prewett. “I know they’re a (Class) A team, but they’ve got some really good athletes. Jumping on them early obviously took them out of the game. “

An Elise Dudley layup to close the first half gave the Warriors their largest lead of the game at 36-16. Lee-Scott followed its first-half performance with a 16-0 run triggered by Central Christian turnovers and three 3-pointers from Jessie Washington, who finished with 16 points, to extend the lead to 53-16.

During both runs, the Central Christian players couldn’t find open looks, much less the basket. Fatigue caused by limited depth also became a factor. The Warriors entered the game with only seven players.

“We didn’t give up, and I’m proud of that,” said Central Christian coach Darrell Walker. “We kept playing until the final buzzer.”

Lee-Scott’s Melissa Maddox led all scorers with 19 points.

Tiffany Brown and Sandretta Thomas finished with eight points apiece to lead Central Christian.

Lee-Scott plays Fort Dale for the Pepsi Classic title at 12:30 p.m. Central Christian plays Morgan in the third-place game at 10 a.m.
