Twentieth century magician Harry Houdini mystified audiences with his magic tricks and captivating disappearing acts. Monday, the Selma-Dallas County Public Library will have tricks up its own sleeves.
To kick off its “Sensational Selma Summer,” the library invites the public to see Birmingham’s “Mort the Mystifying Magician” beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Members of the library staff are excited about Monday’s event.
“This is the first time the magician has come here,” said library director Becky Nichols. “We expect Monday to be fun, great, magical and mystifying.”
Nichols said magic is something that both children and adults enjoy.
“Everyone likes to see mystifying things, and the things that aren’t real seem like they are,” Nichols said. “I think magic is all about being a child again — whatever age you are.”
With events ranging from puppet shows to petting zoos and more scheduled the entire month of June, there is something for every child and adult at the library this summer.
“Our community has grown accustomed to the library having activities — sometimes two to three of them a day — in June and July,” Nichols said. “School’s out for the summer and the library is the place to be.”
