Rodeo will be a good time for all

Even though I’ve now lived in Alabama for 16 years, I’m a Texan by birth.

There are a lot of things that go into being a Texan, but one is a true appreciation for the rodeo.

Around Alabama’s small towns, you often see advertisements for rodeos that are coming whatever day and I am always a bit skeptical about going, because few can compare to what I grew up watching.

This weekend though, I’m sad that I can’t see the rodeo in Marion, because it sounds like a really good time.

There will be all of the best events such as bronco and bull riding, roping and barrel racing by homegrown animals and cowboys and cowgirls.

The event has been going on for 15 years, which allows for some experience for putting on a well-run rodeo.

The event should be a lot of fun, for the adults and the kids. There are specific events for the children including calf wrangling and riding sheep like a fully-grown bull.

Events as fun as this don’t come around very often, obviously in this case once a year, but with a lull in events during the summer it is certainly something to get excited about.

The other part is that proceeds from this rodeo are going to a great cause, SABRA Sanctuary.

With every ticket bought, money will be donated to the organization that provides care for women and children who have been damaged by domestic violence. There will also be places to donate for tornado victims. I applaud the directors for keeping those affected by the April storms fresh in their mind. If you do plan on going to the rodeo though, be careful.

I don’t need to tell anyone who lives here that it is hot, and even at night, you need to hydrate. Make sure everyone drinks lots of water becfore heading down toward the Perry County seat.  So make sure you get a ticket and ennjoy this year’s rodeo!
