Sav-A-Life expands its use of sports to spread its message on Oct. 25 at Valley Grande Golf Course.

“It’s something I’ve thought about and talked about for a number of years but never had the time,” said Matt Dobbs, tournament director. “The golf tournament may help us reach people that the ministry normally wouldn’t get to.”

Entry fees are $50 per player and $150 per three-person team. Registration is underway and will continue until the day of the tournament.

Participants are encouraged to register early so they can select their own tee time and avoid the last-minute rush.

There is a 30-team (90 players) maximum, and 12 teams are committed.

The top three teams receive gift certificates ranging from $50 to 100. Winners of the longest drive and closest to the pin challenges each receive a $100 gift certificate as well.

Sav-a-Life is a non-profit organization that educates both men and women about the alternatives to abortion, post-abortion syndrome and sexually transmitted diseases.

The ministry relies on quarterly fundraisers such as the golf tournament to support the budget and get through the year.

Sav-A-Life’s last fundraiser was an Aug. 16 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Central Christian Academy that the Brown YMCA team won.

“We try to do creative fundraisers,” Selma-Dallas County Sav-a-Life Executive Director Jennifer Dobbs said at the time. “We figured Selma’s really good about basketball. That fit Selma.”
