Murder charges to drug charges

Undray Allen, 32, was arrested and charged Tuesday on a number of drug charges, including trafficking, but there is some discussion on whether or not Allen should have been on the streets to begin with.

Allen was one of a number of individuals arrested in connection with the mid-February murder of Peter Hatcher.

Authorities at the time said Hatcher was beaten with a chain and shot while he was on the ground. Hatcher suffered gunshot wounds to the back and the bottom of his foot. He also suffered a head fracture.

Allen was arrested in late February and charged with murder and placed in the Dallas County Jail under a $1 million bond — a bond he since posted.

Tuesday, in Allen’s Merrimac Heights apartment, law enforcement officials, who were executing a warrant, discovered crack and powdered cocaine worth an estimated $20,000, two revolvers and approximately $3,500 in cash.

Wednesday, Allen again stood before District Judge Bob Armstrong who revoked Allen’s previous bond for the murder charges and set a $2.5 million bond on the new drug charges.

Hatcher, 54, a resident of Selma, died at Baptist South Hospital on Feb. 16 and was buried Feb. 22.

He left behind a parent, Anna Mims; daughter, Shanavia Joyce Hatcher; six brothers, James, John, Paul, Daniel, Joseph and Mark; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
