Selma Recreation Youth football begins

The Raiders and Cowboys — both teams in the 7-to-10 year-old group — kicked off the 2008 Selma Recreation Youth football season on Monday night.
Like their professional namesake, the Cowboys defeated the Raiders 12-8.
The Cowboys struck first. Jeremey Perkins rushed for a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead.
Brandon Oliver doubled the Cowboys’ lead to 12-0 with a 70-yard run in the third quarter.
The Raiders closed out the scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run by Quindarious Tarrana in the fourth quarter. Lamar Crumpton ran in the two-point conversion to leave the final score at 12-8.
Jr. Bears vs. Jr. Cowboys
The Jr. Bears and Jr. Cowboys — 5-6 year-old division — played as well. The Jr. Cowboys won 24-0.
Avfon Summers rushed 40 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, and Tyreshon Freeman scored the two-point conversion.
Darrius Russell ran for a 32-yard touchdown, and Xavier Green rushed for the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 16-0.
Michael Shiles scored the Jr. Cowboys last touchdown with an 18-yard run in the fourth quarter, and Summers scored on the conversion to finish the game at 24-0.
