Fire has destroyed the childhood home of former Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace in Clio.
The Clio Volunteer Fire Department says the fire was reported at 11:15 p.m. Sunday. The fire had overwhelmed the house by the time firefighters arrived, and only the brick walls remain.
State Fire Marshal Ed Paulk says his office is investigating the cause of the fire.
Paulk says the Wallace family sold the house long ago, and the house was vacant when the fire occurred.
