All waterways along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from mile marker 40, near Pearlington, Miss., to mile marker 250, near Panama City, Fla., remain closed Monday as Hurricane Gustav impacts the coast.
The Port of Mobile is closed to all commerce and will open as soon as possible depending on conditions there. Other closures include the ports of Bienville, Miss.; Gulfport, Miss.; Pascagoula, Miss.; Mobile, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla.
A Coast Guard aircraft is scheduled to launch Monday afternoon to begin assessing damage to the ports. The Captain of the Port will open the ports as soon as they are determined to be safe for traffic.
Coast Guard Station Pascagoula has sustained damage to its pier and Station Gulfport has been flooded. Rescue boats from all stations along the impacted area of the Gulf Coast were moved to Pensacola, Fla., ahead of the hurricane’s landfall.
