Judson College is preparing to send another class of graduates out into the world.
The college will hold its annual commencement ceremony today at 11 a.m. in the Alumnae Auditorium on the Judson College campus.
“Here at Judson, commencement is a very special event for the students and the faculty who work here,” said David Potts, president of Judson College.
This commencement will be the 20th ceremony at the college Potts has been a part of and he said he’s particularly proud of this group.
“We’re proud of the community service and other outreach efforts this group has been involved with,” Potts said.
Potts said the college is expecting 40 graduates for this commencement class.
“This is really a culmination of all the hard work on their part,” Potts said. “We’re really proud of these young women.”
“There are future doctors, teachers, professors and lawyers in this graduating class,” Potts added. “They’re very bright young women and I’m proud of the light they bring to this dark world.”
The annual commencement speaker will be former Alabama governor Albert P. Brewer.
Brewer was elected lieutenant governor in 1966 and became governor in 1968 following the death of Gov. Lurleen Wallace.
He also served Morgan County in the Alabama House of Representatives.
Brewer was elected Speaker of the House in his third term at the age of 34, making him the youngest person in state history to hold the position of Speaker.
