Driver escapes injury in accident

What was supposed to be a regular truck route turned out to be an almost fatal one, when a trucker’s trailer equipped with wood flipped just as he was making a turn onto the Cecil Jackson Bypass Friday.
Around noon, John Harmon, who escaped unharmed from the vehicle, said while he was driving 10-15 miles per hour to International Paper from Mississippi, he attempted to make a quick right turn onto the bypass when he heard a popping noise.
“I looked in my mirror and saw the trailer of my truck leaning over,” Harmon said. “The truck picked up, and I grabbed the steering wheel and held on. Thank God I’m okay.”
Investigators on the scene said the rotundum under the trailer broke, causing the truck to flip over.
Selma City Police officers and Selma Fire Department firefighters surrounded the vehicle and blocked the entrance to the bypass as A-1 Auto and Wrecker Service workers came to tow the massive Semi-truck away.
Investigating officer, Evelyn Ghant, said the police department is trying to sort out details of the accident.
The incident is still under investigation.
