SELMA — A high-speed chase through the Queen City has resulted in the arrest of a Selma man.

Gregory Douglas Bennett, 32, was arrested around 2 a.m. Thursday after Selma Police officer Dwight Moorer chased the vehicle driven by Bennett through Selma and into Selmont.

The pursuit began about 1:30 a.m. when Moorer attempted to stop the vehicle after noticing it swerving all over the road and hearing loud music coming it, said Sgt. Doug Stewart, administrative division commander for the Selma Police Department.

“Officer Moorer activated his emergency lights when the vehicle sped away,” said Stewart. “During the pursuit the suspect drove his vehicle toward officers and their vehicles. The suspect eventually slammed on his brakes, causing an officer to strike the rear of the suspect’s vehicle, knocking it off the highway on U.S. 80 East.”

Stewart said Bennett was over twice the legal limit for alcohol. The legal limit is .08,

Officers arrested Bennett on charges of driving under the influence and three counts of reckless endangerment. He is in the Dallas County Jail under a mandatory hold and bonds totaling $2,000.

After Bennett’s arrest, officers received a report the vehicle was driven without the permission of an owner, which could result in another charge, according to Stewart.
