Hamburgers grilling. Watching fireworks shows. Singing patriot songs. Seeing red, white and blue at every turn of the head.

These are just some of the things that invoke the Fourth of July.

For more than 65 years, Americans have been observing Independence Day on July 4.

This year many cities in the county will be hosting events in celebration of our countries birthday.

The master of ceremonies, Derriet Moore, will start the festivities at 8:15 p.m. Anna Ralston of First Baptist Church Youth Leadership will give the opening prayer.

Mayor James Perkins Jr. will welcome the spectators to this year&8217;s show.

The Selma Police Department Honor Guard will perform the presentation of colors.

Police Chief William T. Riley III will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Kim Richardson will sing &8220;The Star Spangled Banner.&8221;

The Selma Community Chorus will stage a patriotic tribute. Americops Director Gwen Cleveland and Dallas County High School teacher Coretta C. Smith will sing &8220;The Battle Hymn Of The Republic.&8221;

Selma police officer Kenta Fulford will lead a special appreciation for Armed Forces members.

The community takes stage next. The audience will take part in the annual sing along.

Timothy

Purdie, 2008 Grist boy of the Year and Selma Early College High School&8217;s valedictorian, will give a patriotic reading.

The close of the night will peak with the fireworks show.

Onlookers will see fireworks and specially chosen music for Selma arranged in a never before seen show.

There will be many events to take part in. This year barbequers will have an opportunity to show off their skills in a rib cook-off.

For the young or young at heart, Valley Grande&8217;s event will have many carnival events like tug-of-war. Valley Grande will then have the all-important fireworks show.

Patrons of the gaming center have been placing tickets in a basket in hopes of winning the money. Children have not been forgotten about.

Fireworks will start at 7:30.
