Two Selma linemen participated in the University of Georgia’s 2008 Mark Richt Football Camp.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Darrius Moore, a 15-year-old junior in the Selma Early College Program. “I really learned a lot of things I needed to improve on – hand techniques, rushing techniques and blocking techniques.”

Fellow junior, James Kimber, also took part in the camp held June 4th-through June 7th. Kimber is a 6-foot-6-inch, 400-pound offensive/defensive lineman for Selma High School. He was blown away by what he saw at Georgia.

“Their facilities were dream come true,” said Kimber. “I learned to just keep going, don’t give up, be the best I can be, and reach for the stars.”

According to Kimber’s mother, Rotissa Kimber Jones, former Selma coach Ryan Montgomery recommended James and Darrius attend Richt’s camp to get exposure.

To attend, both Moore and Kimber had to pay the camp’s $400 fee plus travel expenses. The fee covered room-and-board and meals. Though the fee sounds high, both prospects feel that the experience may result in a scholarship offer.

“Coach Richt told me I’ve got a promising future at Georgia,” said Kimber. “I’ve just got to make good grades, keep my stats up and work out every single day.”

Moore also left the camp with the feeling that he is on solid ground with Georgia.

“When I was doing one of my drills, Coach Richt came up and tapped me on the shoulder and told me I was doing a good job,” said Moore. “I didn’t even know he was out there.”
