Dr. Bracey Hamilton Cross

Dr. Bracey Hamilton Cross passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011, after a lengthy illness.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret Stewart (Peggy) Cross; daughter, Margaret Helen Cross; son, Mallory Stewart Cross (Stephanie); two grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Robertson; sister, Lola Ralls Cross; two brothers, The Rev. Thomas Hudson Cross, Jr. (Ruth) and Dr. Arthur Howell Cross (Dr. Lee); nephews Thomas H. Cross, III (Genie), Bradley R. Cross, Scott J. Cross (Margaret), Kennedy W. Cross (Diane) and Alan A. Cross (Jen).  He was preceded in death by his son, Bracey Hamilton Cross, Jr. and his parents, Thomas Hudson Cross and Lola Ralls Cross.

Dr. Cross grew up in Gadsden, AL, where he was born on May 23, 1940.  He graduated from the University of Alabama, where he was a member and officer of Kappa Alpha Order, and from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry.  He was engaged in the practice of dentistry in Selma for 45 years, and he was known for his compassion, great sense of humor, dedication and love for his patients, as well as for his family and many friends.

He was a member of Church St. United Methodist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board, lay leader and in numerous other capacities.  He also was a loyal and generous supporter of many charitable and civic organizations in the community.  Dr. Cross was a member of the Knights of Revelry and the Selma Country Club, where he formerly served on the Board of Directors and currently served as President of Town and Country.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Church Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Fred Zeigler and Rev. Joe Knight officiating.  The family will receive friends in the Calhoun Parlor of the church from 1:30 to 2:00 prior to the service.

Pallbearers are Ken Morrison, Dr. Bob Anderson, Henry Pitts, Dr. Garrison Thompson, Jr., Bob Keys, Dr. Donnie Russell, Jr., John Parris, and Charles H. Sims, III.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Park Chittom, Sr., Dr. Danny Clower, Freeman Suttle, III, Dr. Todd Cross, Dr. Todd Sherrer, Rod Adams and Jon Williams.
