At the command of Montgomery Police Cpl. Charles Mora, Deeke, the dog, sniffed and pointed out some lockers at Selma High School on Thursday morning, but authorities didn&8217;t turn up any drugs.

Selma and Montgomery police authorities and members of the district attorney&8217;s Anti-Gang task force searched Selma High, Selma C.H.A.T. Academy and Phoenix school for drugs.

Police officers, principals and other school officials emptied several lockers and searched their contents. Authorities said they could smell an odor of drugs, but no illegal substances or paraphernalia were found.

The officers said the school principals requested the search.

Roosevelt Wilson, seventh-grade principal at C.H.A.T., said the search ensured the safety of students.

The Selma Police Department does not have drug-sniffing dogs, so three officers and two trained canines from Montgomery assisted with the search.

District Attorney Michael Jackson was also at the schools and spoke to the students at C.H.A.T. about drugs and gangs.

Jackson said drugs and gang issues need to be removed from the schools to establish and environment that is conducive to learning.
