A strong storm front will roll into the state today, bringing with it the chance for severe thunderstorms.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Birmingham say the possibility of strong storms exists from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Dallas County should see some activity before noon, according to forecasters.

Pam Cook, director of the Dallas County Emergency Management Agency, said storm spotters will be activated if they are needed.

“Let’s hope tomorrow’s severe weather threat is no big deal,” she said Wednesday afternoon.

The storm system is expected to reach Central Alabama and the east by afternoon.

Threats with thunderstorms will include damaging winds and large hail. Ioslated tornadoes are possible, according to the weather service.

The rain won’t last, though.

Forecasters say the rain should in by 7 p.m. in western Alabama, 9 p.m. across the central counties and 11 p.m. in the southeast.

The low pressure front that moves in this direction is expected to stall across the state, providing afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.

Most of the rain will fall in the southern portion of the state.

Saturday, the front will move north before a cold front moves in, causing more chances of rain on Sunday.
