The Selma Art Guild’s Summer Juried Show has been open since mid-June, but the opportunity to view and purchase its original pieces of art is nearly at an end.

“This is a good time for them to get original art, and not pay as much as they would have at the beginning of the show,” Selma Art guild president Sally Jordan said.

The show will be open the next two weekends, July 22-23 and 29-30, from noon to 4 p.m., and all artwork has been marked down 10 percent.

Jordan said they have sold one piece of art, and she would like to sell at least 10.

“I’m sure the artists would like to have us sell 88,” Jordan joked.

Most pieces cost between $40 and $1,500, Jordan said.

“We have some beautiful glass sculptures,” Jordan said. “Then we have a lot of oil paintings, acrylics, water colors … (and) some drawings.”

Jordan said while each weekend has seen only a few people show up, everyone should be interested in owning a piece of original artwork.

“With original art, you see the brush strokes. You see the thought that went into it,” Jordan said. This is not possible with a print or other reproduction.

“It’s one of a kind. Nobody else has one like you.”

But for those who would prefer to look and not buy, the show itself is free.

“It’s uplifting to see the beauty,” Jordan said. “It just makes you feel good.”

Jordan said the art show is a draw, because it features many different mediums and colors — there’s something for everyone.

Art pieces that are not purchased will go back to the artist.

The show is located at the Selma Art Guild Gallery, 508 Selma Avenue. For more information call Sally Jordan at 875-4262.t
